From ancient glass beadwork to contemporary monumental glass sculpture, the Rockwell Museum of Western Art presents the Summer of Glass featuring two special exhibitions.
Visions Beyond Clay: The Artwork of Tammy Garcia is the most comprehensive exhibit of Garcia's monumental glass sculpture to date. Best known for her innovative designs on traditional pottery, Garcia's most recent work features groundbreaking sculptures in glass, bronze and clay that blend ancient Native American symbolism with contemporary forms. The exhibition comprises 22 works of art, ranging from her award-winning Santa Clara ceramics to never-before-seen monumental glass sculptures.
Sewing the Seeds: 200 Years of Iroquois Glass Beadwork celebrates the rich tradition of bead working among the Haudenosaunee nations with an expansive display from the collection of Dolores N. Elliot-one of the largest public or private collections of Iroquois beaded objects in North America. Though created for tourists, these intricate pincushions, purses, and picture frames nonetheless reflect the Haudenosaunee culture and their inherent love of nature and color.
