In addition, the Museum has collaborated with the artist to produce a magnificent catalogue featuring full color reproductions of many of the works in the exhibition. The catalogue will be available for purchase in the Museum Trading Post throughout the exhibition. Advance orders are accepted.

Inspired by locations all over the United States and Europe, award-winning artist Clyde Aspevig has captured moments of fleeting light, graceful shapes, and the majesty of nature. His work graces the walls of the most famous museums of western art and has created recent works exhibited by the Rockwell Museum of Western Art.

As an artist who paints with texture and rhythm, Aspevig's spiritual connection with his subjects is evident throughout his canvasses. Growing up on a Montana farm about 30 miles south of the Canadian border, Aspevig's artistic intentions were and still are to savor the time and place of the land. Aspevig has become the leader of an artistic movement that has roots in French impressionism and a significant role in the development of representational art in America. Aspevig is the recipient of many prestigious art awards including: The Lifetime Achievement Award and the Artists' Choice Award from the Autry Museum of Western Heritage (both in 2004); The Robert Lougheed Memorial Award (1993, 1999), the Frederic Remington Award (1990, 1992), and the Prix de West Invitational, from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame (1999).

Aspevig describes his process of painting as "focusing on the whole instead of every individual part, giving a more truthful sense of reality because it approaches the subconscious mind rather than just offering a literal explanation of the subject matter."

There is always something new to see at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art. The Museum renews exhibits several times each year, rotating its collection through galleries based on themes: Wilderness, Buffalo, Horse, Indian and Cowboy. Here, myths are explored and new ways of thinking about art encouraged. In addition, three or four special exhibits per year bring focus to other subjects.

Located in the center of the Finger Lakes Wine Country region of New York State, the Rockwell Museum of Western Art in the historic Market Street, Gaffer District. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day. For more information, please contact us by phone (607.937.5386) or email (info@rockwellmuseum.org).
